Mythological stories are a part of world literature that are heard throughout the nations and brings people from different parts together through certain lessons and morals. In Greek mythology, there are many tales about different Gods and Goddesses that have contributed their part in the world's creation and maybe be an explanation to why things are the way they might be. In Native American mythical tales, the same concepts of world creations and explanations for different concepts are implemented. The trickster god Hermes from Greek mythology and the Native American trickster Coyote have many attributes that make them a foil of each other and also share their differences.

Coyote is seen as a creator due to the fact that he helped create the Earth, animals, and humans, as stated in the Coyote Myths 1. Hermes himself, did not actually create any form of human life, instead Hermes created the oath of the liar, pan pipes, fire sticks, and he helped in the crafting of Pandora. Even though Hermes helped in the crafting of Pandora, he did not entirely create her, but only gave her a few of his traits. One of the traits that he gave Pandora was the trait of curiosity. Another example of why Coyote is different from Hermes because Coyote is considered more of the creator of everything that is living, which would include the planet and everything that it inhabits. Many similarities seem to arise from both Hermes and Coyote, such as the link to land and fertility. The creation of many useful object that are needed by humans, the crafting, or making of human beings seems to seems to follow both myths. Although Coyote and Hermes seem to have many characteristics and attributes that link them to one another, there are many other attributes that separate them form each other. Hermes and Coyote seem to be foils of one another, but with differences such as appearance, Coyote seems to be a half man half animal shape shifter and Hermes is seen as a God with many human traits. In Native American mythology, there seems to be more of a correlation between the function of specific things in the world and the actions of Coyote. Coyote unlike Hermes, seems to have a higher important role in the world because it seems that he is almost responsible for everything and Hermes only shares his power with the other gods. In Greek mythology, there is a correlation between the actions of the Gods and the way the world is affected around them, but it has to do with all the actions of the gods, unlike Native American mythology where only one main divinity is responsible for all
