Embarrassed by their defeat the Lords of Xibalba were determined more than ever to destroy the Hero Twins. The Xibalban Lords had a great oven built and then summoned the Hero Twins with the intent of tricking them into the oven and burning them to their deaths. The Hero Twins knew that the Lords of Xibalba were leading them into a trick, but allowed themselves to be tricked into the oven, burned, and then have their bones ground into dust.
The Lords of Xibalba were estatic by their victory in finally destroying the Twins. They took their ashes and cast them into a river. However, this was all a part of the plan devised by the Hero Twins as they were hoping the Xibalban Lords would cast them into the river. When the ashes of the Hero Twins were cast into the river, their bodies began to regenerate. First they regenerated as catfish until they finally regenerated back as a pair of young twin boys once again, but looking slightly different. …show more content…
Stories about their transformation from catfish to boys spread, as well as stories about their dancing and how they entertained the people of Xibalba. The boys performed a number of miracles by setting fire to buildings and then bringing them back whole from burnt ashes. They would also sacrifice each another and then raise each other from the dead.
