Herpestidae
Herpestidae is a family that contains the animals mongoose. They are small cat like creatures. Their most common ancestor is the civet. Here are three examples of mongoose in the herpestidae family.

The Dwarf Mongoose
This mongoose is the smallest African mongoose. Dwarf mongoose live in areas such as grasslands, woodlands, brushlands, and scrub of east and southern Africa. The females are the head of the groups and the males check their surroundings for signs of a threat. The mongoose feeds on insects, birds, lizards, snakes, rodents, fruit, and eggs. A group will build a bunch of dens to run to if needed. Dwarf mongoose will normally breed 2 - 3 times a year, normally in the months of October and May. Their ancestors are most like cats and civets. They are about 18 - 28 cm long, their tails are 14-19 cm long, and they weigh about 7-10 oz.
