Admirable Figure
The feminist movement is still an important movement in the world today. Feminism is a movement that advocates equal rights for women. One of the earliest feminist leaders was a character from the novel, The Scarlet Letter, by Nathaniel Hawthorne. The character is Hester Prynne, a strong and courageous women. Hawthorne portrays Hester as an admirable figure due to her courage, relentlessness, and ultimate transformation.
Hester is an admirable figure due to her courage. Hester is very brave and has a lot of courage. Hester is known for her scarlet letter and how she decorates it. Throughout the novel, Hester has evolved. Hester used to just smile and didn't bother anyone. Now, she sews for townspeople and help the homeless which has earned a lot of respect. The townspeople used to say the scarlet letter on her chest stands for adultery but now it stands for able. Also, Hester has changed her physical appearance. She let down her hair and took the ripped the scarlet letter off her chest. Hawthorne writes, “ So speaking, she undid the clasp that fastened the scarlet letter…” ( Hawthorne 189). In the article, Hester’s A, by Monica M. Elbert, Elbert writes, “ Herself having once been impassioned and lovesick, she excels has a counselor” ( Hester’s A 1). Elbert wrote that to explain that Hester changed from her heartfelt days to a tremendous leader.
In conclusion, Hester is an admirable figure due to her courage, relentlessness, and ultimate transformation. Hester Prynne was a great first feminist leader. Feminism is still a powerful movement today, with leaders like Michelle Obama and Oprah Winfrey. Never doubt a female because anything a man can do, a female can do as
