The Hewlett Foundation: Educational program
Any wealthy company with a foundation has the power to change people's lives. Entrepreneur William R. Hewlett with his wife, Flora Lamson Hewlett, founded the Hewlett Foundation that helps people build measurably better lives, and according to their website they pertain one of the nation's largest total assets of $9.0 billion. Their grantees are working to; reduce poverty in the developing world, curb carbon emissions that lead to climate change, and improve education for students in California and globally(1).

The educational program was established in 2002, and has focused on improving the conditions for education policy reform in California and fostering the spread of high-quality open educational resources (OER)(2). Since then this program has helped thousands of students and teachers around the globe have equalized access to knowledge through open educational programs, and to raise the educational achievement in disadvantaged communities in the San Francisco Bay Area.
The foundation advocates for deeper learning in the educational program. With deeper learning, students use their knowledge and skills in a way that prepares them for real life. They become articulate in reading, writing, math, and science, while learning how to think critically, collaborate, and also communicate with peers more affectively. Also, this empowers them to better engage with their communities. Deeper learning is important because once the students of today graduate, they will be able to excel in their careers and solve problems like climate change and global poverty. We live in a very competitive world that is rapidly changing all around us, and this program truly nurtures the minds of the future leaders of
