In the modern world racism is not a big issue that occurs up in our daily lives which is proven in the black president that was elected and many other accomplishments the world has made to end racisim.In the 1900’s racism was a big issue which is seen in the book HIdden Figures. Hidden Figures tell the story of three black women in the male dominated field of space exploration and how they had to deal with the oppression. These three women preserved through these problems and were very successful in their respected field.While there are many themes in the book the main theme that is presented in the book is that no matter what race or gender you are you can still achieve your goals.

One quote the exemplifies this statement happens in page 49 which is “Not everyone could take the long hours and high stakes of working at angley, but most of the women in West computing felt that if they would forfeit their opportunity. In this scene Dorothy is having a hard time dealing with the long hours and the constant oppression that she is facing at West Langley,but no matter what she can't waste this rare opportunity she has. No matter what Dorothy must persevere and achieve her goal. Mary Jackson who is another protagonist in the book must face the hardship that black women faces during that time. One quote on which Mary Jackson shows the theme is on page 108 which is “ “can you direct me to the bathroom?” Mary asked the white women. They responded to Mary with giggles.How would they know where to find her bathroom.” This quote shows the problem that Mary faced in which as simple situation of going to bathroom showed issues.
