I have accomplished many goals during my high school career, especially in my school. By connecting with others in the classroom, transforming certain aspects of my school, and making a difference in others’ lives, I feel that I will have left a huge impact. When I graduate, I will leave a positive legacy that includes me being a determined and hard-working student, a mentor to other students, and a leader. At my school, I strive to be the best student I can be academically. Being a role model and mentor for others is important because it allows them to push themselves to be great. One way in which I act as a role model for others is by refraining from participating in negative activities. There are some students at my school who think it is cool to constantly party and forget about school responsibilities; I am the complete opposite. I barely go partying with other people, and if I do go partying, I make sure to be responsible about it. I also do not abandon my school responsibilities. Before I go and hang out with any of my friends, I ensure that my homework is completed. Another way in which I act as a role model is through my community service. I am a member of a multitude of clubs for my school that often involves donations and service for others. I frequently work to make the community inside and outside of our school a better place. One way in which I exhibited leadership is through SAVERS Club, an organization where students volunteer their time to tutor other students who are struggling in subjects such as math, science, social studies, and English. This club has been running since 2011, and since then we have helped students achieve their academic goals, while also promoting diversity and respect among those who seek our help. A common misconception about SAVERS is that we only assist ESL (English as a Second Language) students. While we do in fact aid in these students’ abilities to understand and utilize the English language, this is not the only group we help; this prejudice is the reason why our club members felt like we needed to show that we help a wide variety of people. We created a presentation for our school principal, as well as decorated and put up posters around the school to present the true facts about our club. From those actions, we have eliminated cultural bridges and stereotypes in regards to SAVERS Club, and made students who need to be tutored feel more confident in taking the initiative to receive the help they need and deserve.
