There are a multitude of plausible factors on why low-income, high-achieving students do not apply to top-selective colleges, and one prominent supposition is that low-income, high-achieving students do not receive college guidance. This research project focused on the effects of college guidance on high-achieving, low-income students in the graduating class of 2015 in 14 high schools throughout New York City. It was hypothesized that if high-achieving, low-income students are provided with a greater amount of college guidance throughout their college application process, then they will be more likely to apply to top selective colleges. Research was conducted by surveying High School seniors, in the class of 2015, by means of convenience sampling.
