Hip Hop is the lifestyle; many people are unaware of the fact. Much America's popular culture is dominated by influences of Hip Hop culture specifically through youth culture, social norms, and fashion. Hip-Hop is the embodiment of a lifestyle cultivated in the early 1970’s “Hip-hop music is generally considered to have been pioneered in New York's South Bronx in 1973 by Jamaican-born DJ [Kool] Herc”(Blanchard), DJ Kool Herc is whom many consider as the “Father of Hip-Hop”. The four elements that make up Hip-Hop are Rapping, DJing, Graffiti, and Breakdancing. However, the influences that Hip-hop has inspired spans across an array of different American values. Hip-Hop has started trends in fashion since the 1990’s. Companies like Fubu were made in a direct effect to how Hip-Hop has influenced a way of dress “Formed in 1992, Fubu, an acronym for "for us by us," quickly gained popularity, partly due to well-placed publicity. Likewise, some artist created their own clothing line like Kanye West’s Yeezus show line. Much of today’s rap is about flaunting money and luxuries. As a result, the mantra “Started from the Bottom, Now We Here” echoes in the Hip-Hop world as many rappers have changed a poverty-stricken life, with their talent, into a fruitful music career. This attitude has prompted many rappers to wear flashy jewelry to express their wealth and style making the act of buying chains a regular for signed artist as mentioned in rapper Big Sean’s song “First
