Schizophrenia is a series disorder and it affects how a person thinks, feels and acts. It can affect a person at any time in their life and there are different reasons to why people can become schizophrenic. This disorder is can be very damaging and emotional. People who have schizophrenia have to receive major medical treatment to keep it under control. There is no cure for schizophrenia and may people suffer from it (Pinel 2011).
Schizophrenia affects the brain and is a complex brain disorder. It is known that schizophrenia may be caused by some dysfunctional circuits in the brain. The parts of the brain that can be affected are the frontal and temporal lobes and the limbic system and the thalamus. (Pinel).
Some casual factors of schizophrenia are genetics, being inherited, stress, chemical defects and physical abnormity’s in the brain. Early environment, prenatal development, substance use, viral infections, neurobiology, psychological and social process are also factors leading to schizophrenia. How people get schizophrenia is not completely understood and researchers are working hard to find out the causes (pinel0.
Men are usually diagnosed with schizophrenia in their early 20s and woman in their late 20s. It is uncommon for a child to be diagnosed with schizophrenia and for people over 45 years of age. Signs and symptoms may very when it comes to schizophrenia and everyone is different. Some of the symptoms can be delusions, false belief and not based on reality, halluncinations and this is when someone is seeing and hearing things that don’t exist. Abnormal motor behavior and disorganized thinking and speech and withdrawal trouble sleeping, depression and lack of motivation can all also be symptoms of schizophrenia.
The neural basis of schizophrenia may involve an imbalance of neurotransmitters and abnormal brain structures. Schizophrenia may be caused by a combination of genetic, environmental and neurological factors. Different symptoms of schizophrenia may be caused by different neurological dysfunctions. It is not quite understood at this point.
Treatment for schizophrenia consist of a medication regime and psychotherapy and support groups. Schizophrenia usually requires a combination of antipsychotics anti-depressant and anti-anxiety medication. One of the biggest challenges for people who have schizophrenia is that they go through periods when they stop taking their meds and they end up going through devastating experiences.

Depression is a disorder that affect many people of all ages and races. Many people are depressed and never seek treatment. But the ones who do get treatment are known to live more product full lives. Some people struggle with depression all their lives but with treatment they can be productive and live a normal life or close to normal. Depression is also a disorder that affects the brain. It is treated with therapy and medication such as antidepressants. Sometimes there is a combination of drug treatment.
