The book I'm analyzing is The Boy With The Striped Pajamas. The lense I will be implementing into my writing is the historical lense. Historical lense can be used to introduce a method of reading that examines the historical context. Explaining how the period in which the context is written can demonstrate what happens and does not happen. By using the historical lense I can also examine how much time and place matter. How the setting can affect the character is another element that can be viewed historically. Therefore, I will analyze how Bruno the main character maintains an act of kindness during an era of hate and discrimination towards the Jewish community.

Hitler's mission was to exterminate the Jewish population. He believed that they were the cause of the depression that severely damaged Germany's economy. Hitler's beliefs transferred to the German people. The German people grew hate and viewed Jews as less than them. Likewise, Bruno is living in an atmosphere that proclaimed the hate for Jews. Throughout the book Bruno's father states negative remarks towards the Jews. Brunos father states that Jews aren't people and that he should not talk to the potato peeler living with them because he is a Jew. Brunos heart tells him different and soon establishes a friendship with a Jewish boy named Shmuel. Bruno demonstrates acts of kindness to Shmuel in which Brunos environment would not approve. One act of kindness involved Bruno bringing food to his friend Shmuel. Bruno sought out his and Shmuel's differences and viewed each other equally. Enabling Bruno to express his kindness as if Shmuel was a regular boy just like him. Therefore, blocking the negative atmosphere and spreading his
