This article will be used in the historiography of the symbolic meaning of excavation and identification of human remains. It will also be used in the historiography of the U.S. caring for its dead in previous wars. Moreover, it is a decent secondary source to describe the debates in the historiography of searching for missing soldiers in the Vietnam War. Besides, a few facts, like some practices of identifying soldiers’ bodies in the Vietnam War in the 1970s that are documented in some Congressional Records, could be cited.
