They tell us as kids not to judge someone by how they look without even trying to get to know him or her. It seems as if we let this message go in one ear and out the other because we tend to judge people based on their appearance. Racial profiling became a big problem in the United States these last couple of months. It almost seemed as if whenever you turn on the news there was always a case involving a black man and a white cop. The history of racial profiling, the innocent lives it had affected, and ways we can limit racial profiling to save more people’s lives. To define racial profiling is when individuals are “targeted for suspicion of crimes based on their ethnicity, race, or religion rather than on evidence-based suspicious behavior.” …show more content…
The Latin Americans are facing an issue that people often question whether they are illegal immigrants. Racial profiling started back in the 1700s when African Americans were slaves. Freed blacks were harassed because white patrol officers thought they were runaways and on many occasions, officers physically abused many of them. After the slaves fought for their independence in the Civil War, new challenges arose. In 1865, the Jim Crow laws were established and the separation of whites from blacks became as powerful as ever. These laws separated blacks from going to school with whites, eating at the same restaurants and using the bathrooms together. Many hotel managers refused service to many of the African Americans that played sports on professional teams causing them to sleep on the team’s bus. "I think we have to admit this. We shouldn't try to gloss it over or it would go away. The numbers explains a lot dealing with racial issues. It is hard to look at the numbers and see it so one sided towards a certain race. African Americans are having a hard time explaining to their kid that justice is not going to be on your side. Black teens now are raise to expect the worst when it comes to the police. It should not have to come to this point; people are so lost in their natural ways that black teenagers are getting killed before they even graduate from high school. Mothers are burying their sons before kissing them bye when they go off to college. It has got to a point where African Americans are accepting the fact that justice will never be on our side (CNN
