Lonely is a Tough way to Live Candy and Curley’s wife are lonely and desperate to have friends and family. My evidence is going to show proof in the book Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck and why the theme is loneliness also why Candy feels lonely and how. Same with Curley’s wife how she feels lonely even though she already has a husband. Candy is lonely without his dog he had him since he was a puppy. Carolson wanted to kill the dog because it was very old and stinky. He said he will put him out of misery but he did not act like he cared about the dog. “Maybe tomorra le’s wait till tomorra.” (pg.44).The reason why Candy wanted to wait until tomorrow because he wanted one more day whit his old dog. This is important why is because Candy feels lonely without his dog and he had him for a long time. Steinbeck is trying to say that living lonely is a difficult way to live. Curley’s wife is lonely and desperate to have another man. The reason why is that Curly does not let her talk to no one and see no one because he will get mad. “ Well, I ain’t giving you no trouble, think I don’t like to talk to somebody ever’ once in a while?” (pg.77). This explains from Curley’s wife quote that no one wants to be lonely and will try to find someone to be with. Candy heard about George and Lenny dream of having a house and a farm together. Candy wanted to join them because he feels lonely because he does not have his dog anymore and he wants to start a family with them. While he hears about it he ask George if he can join them but this is how Candy said it. “ I’d make a will an’ leave my share to you guys in case I kickoff, ‘cause I ain’t got no relatives or nothing.”(pg.65). This explains that Candy thinks no one cares about him and he is lonely forever until George let him in to that path of the dream house. That is a harsh way to live lonely and depress and stress. Steinbeck is saying that if you are lonely you can still achieve your goal or dreams and you might end up with a family and have friends. Curley’s wife has a dream to be with someone else besides Curley. “ I tell you I ain’t used to livin’ like this. I coulda made somethin’ of myself.” (pg.34). This quote that Curley’s wife said explains that she is tired of living under the rules of Curley’s house. Curley barely talks to her and is with her and she gets lonely. The author in this novel is representing loneliness in her quote and her dreams. She is explaining her dream to be with someone else and not to be lonely no more. George is another person that does not want to end up lonely and have his dream house when he was
