To grow up in two culture, I was torn between the pressure and complex tension to find a position in society. I struggled to balance two culture as I strived for success and along the way, I finally realized that it is a creative blessing to experience two culture. Reevaluating my minority identity development, I at one point of life did not appreciate my culture and wished to fit in a culture that I considered to be a norm. My culture experiences have taken turns and taught me important aspects that complimented my knowledge of Hmong culture. I continued to can endorsed my culture and learned to appreciate my culture with a whole new perspective. I have learned how to use organizational theory to analyze the behavior of individuals as members of families, groups, organizations, and communities. Also, I have identified the dynamic of the aging process, and its impacts on generalist social work practice including values and ethics. The purpose of our research was to help reduce the language barriers between the staff and clients at Neighborhood House. Neighborhood House program serves a wide variety of participants, many of whom are immigrants, refugees, and asylum seekers who are the non-English speaker. As immigrant or refugee language barrier often prevent this population from accessing available resources. The anticipated outcome is to find a better way for participants and staff to communicate during the intake process and to increase referral for other services at Neighborhood House. In our research project, we used both quantitative and qualitative methods to conduct our research project. A quantitative method we used because surveys used in the research project included both closed-ended questions and secondary data used. Also, a qualitative method was used because open-ended questions were included in the surveys to ask about participant’s experiences using pictographs with clients in the Food Market intake
