Although recent studies have further defined and classified human Hodgkin’s granuloma based on histology, there is still much to be discovered about the disease. Hodgkin’s granuloma is named after Dr. Thomas Hodgkin; he was the first to write about it in 1832 although the abnormalities had been observed long before that time. Throughout Dr. Hodgkin’s studies, he described different organs and glands in his cadavers as being swollen and enlarged and concluded that the enlargement was the primary cause of their death (Hodgkin). Since many characteristics of Hodgkin’s granulosum are also present in other diseases, the histology is extremely important in diagnosis, classification, and treatment. Although Dr. Hodgkin was not able to study the histology of the tissues at that time, he initiated the discussion about a new and unique pathology.
Hodgkin’s granuloma (also formerly known as Hodgkin’s disease) is now better known as Hodgkin’s lymphoma after it was discovered that the affected cells are almost always B lymphocytes (Hodgkin Disease-Granuloma). B lymphocytes are a type of agranular white blood cell of the immune system that, once

Thomas Hodgkin, future research will be focused on more clearly defining and distinguishing the different subtypes. Further classification will be accomplished through the field of histology as tissue samples are studied under the microscope. In addition to correctly classifying the different subtypes, researchers will attempt to find a more definitive cause for Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Clinical trials evaluating the side effects of different treatments are constantly performed on patients with different types of Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Hopefully, an effective treatment with minimal side effects will be found soon (Hodgkin’s disease). However, there is still much to be discovered about Hodgkin’s
