In the book “The Catcher in the Rye”, Holden Caulfield shows many signs of empathy and shows that he is out to help other people and to try and help himself. But, one of the things that is stopping him from helping people is that he lies alot. Holden Caulfield suffers from depression but yet he keeps it to himself. In the book, I think that Holden is a great rescuer, but fails to rescue himself because Holden focuses on other people's feelings.
