Holocaust Museum Visit

One of my favorite places we visited on the D.C. trip was the Holocaust Museum. I think it was the most meaningful place we visited and I learned a lot being there. It gave anyone who was there a truthful depiction of what really happened during the period of the Holocaust. I was definitely the most emotional at this museum out of all of the ones we visited, but it gave me more knowledge and insight on the topic. I listened to two survivors of the Holocaust and their stories. It was amazing to hear from someone who was there first hand and experienced it for themselves. I chose this site mostly because there was so much to see and learn from. It has the home of Robert E. Lee. He was an American general and in 1861, earned command of the Army of Northern Virginia in the Confederate Army. Below his estate is the eternal flame and John F. Kennedy’s grave. I really like the symbolism of the flame. It was requested by Jacqueline Kennedy, John F. Kennedy’s wife. She wanted it to show that her husband had given his life for his country. The museum is fairly new and has a lot of interesting and innovative exhibits. Something I loved about the museum was that it was interactive. I learned a traditional African American Dance and the museum had many other places where you could learn unique pieces of the African American Culture. I spent a lot of time in the Sports exhibit, which had artifacts from athletes such as Gabby Douglas, Muhammad Ali, Serena Williams, and many more.
