The Inescapability of Death
Born. Live. Die. Do these words show the human life cycle? The author exemplifies those words when it comes to more than just humans. Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, a novel, by Ransom Riggs, about Jacob’s teen life, from living in a world of disbelief to being surrounded by friends he cared about, friends he left his family for. Within this novel, the stories of others have been told as well, especially seen with Jacob’s grandfather and the creation of Hollowgasts. They tell a story in relation to the big idea of death as seen within the book. While the fear of death can help us to survive, this fear must eventually be faced. Essentially, the novel implies that trying to escape death can lead to the destruction of one's self. Why isn’t immortality the gift it promises to be? Although the question is submissive, it's typically answered with the depressing truth of having to out-live your loved ones. The beginning, makes you believe the author believes survival and awakening are the overshadowing big ideas, although throughout, the author shows new sides of the will to survive, and it allows the audience to make connections to the real world, for centuries man has been after prolonging their life, to the point where they can live forever and outlive everyone.
