I most definitely enjoyed visiting, and interviewing Christopher Pelfrey at Home free IOP. It was slightly different than what I thought it would be. When I arrived it felt like I was preparing to go into someone row home, I thought it would be more of a hospital setting. I have never visited any type counseling center, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. There wasn’t anything really going on when I arrived, but it was the end of the day. The only thing that really raised concern for me was being a women and working there. My thought process is if most of your clients are coming from parole and probation is it unsafe at times? I never thought it would be that personal. They communicate outside of Home free IOP, and the counselors even take them out on walks, and other events outside of the office. I felt that was very personal, and wasn’t sure if other facilities practices the same habits. I could never see myself working in this type of setting. I have realized that drug rehabilitation would not be the career for me. I wasn’t crazy about the setting, and found no real connection with drugs or alcohol. After leaving Home free IOP I felt the staff most certainly did an adequate job addressing rehabilitating these individuals. I actually felt they went above and beyond. It made me feel good about how much they actually cared about their clients. Some historical aspects as I reflect on my paper was how poor the facilities and care was for drug addiction. There was a small amount of options available, and pretty much were viewed as crazy. As well, only men were focused on. There was no place for women when it came to being rehabilitated. This is why I felt Home Free IOP far surpassed my expectations of what outpatient counseling should
