About a month ago, I attended the Homecoming football game. It was the Northwestern Raiders against the Morningside Mustangs. One of the first things that happened at the game was the national anthem. Once the announcer told us to rise, everyone stood and turned to the flag pole, only to discover that there was no flag. Even still we all stood and looked to where the flag was supposed to be. Around that time, there had been a lot of controversy about football players not standing during the national anthem. These football players said that they were not standing to raise awareness about the racial injustice still present in our country.
