Approximately 3.5 million people, 1.35 million of them children, are likely to experience homelessness in a given year (how to cite?1.). Many people become homeless and poor because of several reasons such as increased-living costs, loss of income, and other unexpected events unraveling. Despite these events, many people strive towards their perception of the American dream. The American dream means having equal opportunities to achieve success, financial stability, having inalienable rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. People have numerous reasons to achieve their American dream, the most common reason being to better their lives. The American dream can be achieved by people who grasp hold of the opportunities that they encounter. Grasping hold of the vast amounts of opportunities that America consists of can lead to a person’s perception of the American dream being achieved more easily such as business or political opportunities. For example, corporations and businesses, people advance to higher positions in their chosen career because of their hard work in fields such as accounting, auditing, or marketing. Immigrants from around the world come to America for better opportunities in their pursuit of happiness. For example, immigrants from Mexico travel to America In hopes of job opportunities, higher incomes, and providing a better life for their families and themselves, but they do not obtain their goals. Instead, emigrants all over the world receive harsh treatment on the jobs such as illegal pay cuts or harassment and blackmail of their citizenship in America. In “Roberto Acuna Talks about Farm Workers” it says that veterinarians tend to the needs of domestic animals, but they can’t have medical care for workers…and have no regard for safety precautions (Studs Tekel 75) In short, emigrants from other countries who obtain jobs in America in hope of better a life are treated very poorly as though they’re second class citizens because of reasons such as their desperation for income or lack of identification documents. To sum up, the American dream is harder to achieve for people who encounter unlawful treatment and have no rights under American statures. Although, every person does not have the same opportunities and are faced with the same challenges, there have been laws and financial systems created for their
