Through Homer’s colored lens the Hymn to Artemis reflects how a major Goddess is drafted by a Grecian man. Homer’s portrayal of Artemis is undeniably feminine with sprinkles of male components, but only because of her status as one of the twelve major Gods and Goddesses. The gender imbalance formed by the patriarchal hierarchy in Ancient Greece left men with the option to portray whomever in any light necessary to legitimize the plot of their story. In this work, Artemis is eloquently portrayed to a point, Homer doesn’t cross into the realm her wrath and vengeance. With most Gods to human or goddess to human relationships it ends in complete disaster because of the deity’s humanly qualities of envy and pride making the human’s life a tragedy.
