A criminal investigation involves the study of facts used to identify, locate and prove the guilt of an accused criminal. In an investigation case an officer can utilize various methods of investigation that would include searching, interviews, interrogations, evidence collection, and many other methods that are available. Yet, the investigator must not utilize his personal opinion about the crime as it can jeopardize the guilt or innocence of the suspect as well as the officer’s integrity. The job of the criminal justice investigator begins when a criminal offense gets reported to the law enforcement officials. If it’s necessary the investigation process will start and possibly lead to a warrant and an arrest. If the defendant waives his right to a jury trial then a jury is automatically selected for the trial to begin. If the defendant is found guilty a sentence is imposed a couple of days after the verdict is given by the jury. The defendant has the right to appeal the guilty verdict and sentencing but, the trial process would have to start all over again. The lawyer, prosecutor, investigation officer, and everyone involved in the case try to make a very good effort to ensure that justice is served fairly and to ensure that the criminal justice system remains strong and effective.
