Throughout my senior year of high school, I knew that I wanted to go to college, but I was unsure as to what I wanted to pursue. In the three years prior, I switched what career I wanted to go into numerous times. I knew I would have many opportunities to go to college and figure out what I wanted to be. By the time I applied for Northern Arizona University, I knew I wanted to become a teacher.
As for my education, I plan on going through NAU's teaching program, as well as the honors program. The teaching program is quite beneficial to me because it gives me the opportunity to teach classes in schools in the Flagstaff community, so that by the time I actually become a teacher, I'll already have some sort of experience teaching. The honors program is also beneficial because it allows me to take classes that demand me to go the extra mile when doing my assignments. With these programs,

I am determined to become a teacher that students can look up to and be the support that they may need during what can be a quite stressful time for teenagers. I want to be a relatable teacher that students are comfortable with. My two main goals that I will strive to achieve once I become a teacher will be to help more students get motivated to go to college and to lessen the stigma behind math classes. By being a teacher fresh out of college, teaching at a low-income school, I hope to be a role model to show my students that no matter what conditions their life may be in at the time, that they can pursue the careers they really want to do. I also want to get rid of the stigma behind math classes because students sell themselves short when they go to math classes by automatically assuming that they'll never be able to be good at math. However, I want more students to become confident in math so that they may also find more interest in STEM related
