Leadership involves influencing followers to achieve the set goals and objectives. Different leaders employ different leadership styles, for example, autocratic leadership, laissez-faire style of leadership, transactional leadership, democratic leadership, situational leadership, and transformational leadership. In the movie Hoosiers, the coach and assistant coach display different styles of leadership. In the film, the assistant coach displays a laissez-faire style of leadership since it is apparent he does not set goals for the basketball team.
However, he shows consideration for the team as he practices with them and says that he has set a routine that players use and does not want to try new ways to avoid confusing the players. By showing that they have no motivation to thorough practice, it is evident that the players also prefer a laissez-faire leadership style. As such, the players want to do whatever they wish, as shown by the two players’ defiance of to the new coach which culminates into the new coach kicking them out of the squad until they learn to listen while he is talking. Autocratic leadership is concerned with position and the use of rewards to motivate followers. The former coach also used autocratic leadership as he is depicted giving the players orders without explanation.

Transactional leadership is concerned with maintaining the normal flow of operations while transformational leadership involves managing the tasks of one’s followers to achieve success.
