The educational reform took place in the1800s when reformers attempted to make public education possible. The main goal for the reformers was to make schools government funded so that children could easily get an education. Back in the 1800s many immigrants came over to the United States which made them believe that they needed to expand on public education. One of the main people involved in this was Horace Mann. He was the president of the Massachusetts Senate in 1837. After being president Mann went on to become the secretary for the board of education for 12 years to achieve his goal. A quote from Horace Mann was “Education is our only political safety. Outside of this ark is deluge.” This quote says a lot about Mann and his main goals.
