In the book Peace Like A River, horses tend to bring suffering and bad luck to the Land family and others. Horses are typically strong and beautiful animals. Throughout the book there is a dream of a dead horse, people getting severely injured from horses, and horses not being used for a good purpose. Horses are mentioned frequently throughout the book, they don’t show major red flags of horses being bad luck, but when looking into it more and thinking about certain scenarios you realize that horses contribute to some things that aren't very good in the book. Starting off in the first couple chapters of the book, Reuben has a dream where he finds a dead horse by a body of water. It was a mysterious dream that didn’t seem to have an answer.
