My article that I chose for this week’s hotel news now is “Best Western introduces two new brands” by Ed Watkins. According to this article the executives of Best Western International met on Wednesday to describe that there were two new brands in the company. These brands being: Vib, a lifestyle product and BW Premier Collection, a soft brand. The president and CEO, David Kong, announced “We are a leader in many areas in the hotel industry, and we can also be a leader in design.” The article describes how the brand Best Western has now is fit for the baby boomers but not our new generation, they now have to figure out how to appeal the new generation with compromising the sweet spot.
Vibrant and dynamic gathering place (Vib), is a place where there will be multiple zones for working, relaxing and socializing. The rooms will be small, but includes a design-oriented and space-saving features. Furniture will be minimal; folded down hooks will take the place of the closets; and the desk is the headboard. Millennials are motivated by a good price. Kong, however hasn’t revealed any projected room rates or development costs. This brand will speak to age groups other than young travelers. Kong said, “We want (Vib) to have the same appeal to Gen Xers and baby boomers also.”
They also announced the launch of BW Premier Collection, which is the soft brand. There have been no other details related to that. The chain’s design team is working on new-construction prototypes for Best
