The American Dream what is it? How do you reach it? What are the tools you need to reach it? The book “The house on mango street “by Sandra Cisneros” The author Sandra Cisneros writes a story about a immigrate Mexican girl who moved to Chicago with her mother, pops, and her 3 siblings. Her name was Esperanza and she describing the hardship to reach to the American dream with each person who lives on her block on Mango Street. However, what are the struggles to reaching it my reasons are education, language barrier, and Assimilation because those are three big things you need when you move to a whole new country.

For example in the passage its sates “How does she explain? She met him at a dance Geraldo in his shiny shirt and green pants. Geraldo going to a dance. What does it matter” (Doc D). Another example the story stated “Somebody said because she’s too fat, somebody because of the three flights of stairs, but I believe she doesn’t come out cause she don’t know English and maybe this is so since she only knows eight words”(Doc C) . This proves that some immigrates deal with assimilation, about not being able to fit in with others and accepted because mamacita came from new Mexico and it so use to people being nice to friendly but, when it came to coming to Chicago and going to mango street, people starting judging of her size and how she looks and the way she lives her life and it was hard. Also for Geraldo people didn’t care about him they just saw him as another Mexican who couldn’t talk
