This past month I got to observe two houses of faith where I was able to observe the Catholic and Jewish houses of faith. After sitting in on both houses of faith I was able to compare them and see what was similar between the two houses. I went to each house of faith one time on two different days. I dressed somewhat nice because I wasn’t sure what was acceptable and did not want to offend anyone in their house of faith. The Catholic house of faith was the first out of the two I went to observe. I went on November 1st to St. Elizabeth in Flanders. Before I went to go to the catholic house of faith I did some research so would know and understand what was going and what they believe in. As I was walking to my pew there was a band playing on the side playing holy music before mass starts. Once the priest comes in the band stops playing and everyone takes a seat and mass then will begin. The mass is the formal way of worshiping service of Catholicism, is the most important and sacred act of worship in the Catholic Church. The room was calm and silent. There was the Ark placed in the front of the room. The Ark is wooden peace that is in the middle of the room that also has curtains on it. This curtain is in imitation of the curtain in the Sanctuary in The Temple. In the center of the room or in the front you will find a pedestal called the bimah. The Torah scrolls are placed on the bimah when they are read. The bimah is also sometimes used as a podium for leading services. Someone read from the bimah during the time I was there. The time I was there was for an hour long. The temple was open for three hours that Saturday morning but anyone can come in and pray with those hours and pray together.
