How Did Alexander Hamilton Affect America

Alexander Hamilton is a very well-known figure in American history. From his roles in the military, to being a prestigious New York attorney, to being a member of the United States government, Hamilton did everything he could to the best of his ability, and he made a lasting impact on shaping America as we know it. Alexander Hamilton was born approximately January 11 of either 1755 or 1757 on the island of Nevis, the West Indies. Hamilton was the illegitimate son of James Hamilton and Rachel Fawcett Lavien, who at the time were not married, as Rachel had been promised to another man, who was abusive and caused the relationship to end in divorce. Hamilton had a younger brother named James, who was born in 1786. Sadly, the family was stricken with tragedy. When Alexander was just a boy, his father left the family, and they were hit with poverty. Furthermore, Alexander had to start working at the tender age of 11. Then, in 1768, Alexander’s mother became very ill and passed away at the age of 38, leaving the children as orphans. They moved in with a guardian, Peter Lytton, but after a year of caring for the children committed suicide. Completely alone, Alexander got a job as an accounting clerk in St. Croix. His employers saw very much potential in him, so they pooled together any resources they had and sent Alexander to America, where he could continue his education. In 1774, still only 16, he enrolled at Kings College. Still, the colonies on the edge of revolution drew him into politics. He wrote an article defending the Patriots' cause, and eventually dropped out of college in order to pursue the Patriots in their opposition to unfair British taxes and business regulations. …show more content…
