Alfred Munzer’s life as a three year old was dramatically altered during the Holocaust. Alfred Munzer was born on November 23, 1941, in Hague, Netherlands. While his father worked at his tailoring business, Alfred's mother looked after him and his two sisters. Their names were Eva and Leah. (Alfred Munzer)
On May 21, 1942, everything would change. Alfred’s father was ordered by German soldiers to report to a labor camp, but he had already anticipated this. He checked himself into the local hospital to have a hernia operation, while his mother volunteered to be a nurse assistant. Alfred’s mother sent his sisters to the neighbor’s house for safety. His sisters were later reported and sent to Auschwitz along with 61,000 other Jewish people. All of the 61,000 people were killed. (The Holocaust camp pg 63)

Soon afterwards Alfred's father was captured and sent to a labor camp. In 1943 Alfred’s father was killed while in the labor camp. Alfred stayed with his aunt for a short time, but she became nervous trying to kept Alfred hidden and sent Alfred to live with her ex-husband, Tole’. While living with his aunt’s ex-husband Alfred was treated very well, and thought of Alfred as a member of their family. However they kept Alfred hidden from friends and neighbors to avoid suspicion.
