Without a doubt, Bob Marley is one of the icons in the music industry. In fact, he is among the few artists that successfully combined music, pop culture, and politics to challenge and enlighten audiences across the globe. He used music as a tool to address political injustice and human rights abuse. At the height of his success, Bob Marley became an influential world figure who inspired political liberation movements in the United States and South Africa (Burell 1). Above all, his music contained succinct messages that accommodated individuals from different socio-economic and cultural backgrounds. In particular, Bob Marley was born in Jamaica to an English father and Jamaican mother. He successfully completed his elementary and high school education, although the death of his father affected his studies. Bob Marley and his mother, Cecilie Booker, later relocated to Jamaica’s capital Kingston and settled in Trench Town, a low-cost government housing project.
