Civil War In the early nineteenth century, Americans thought to fix their political disputes through compromise with the confederates, but by 1860 it seemed impossible. War start to begin and compromising was no longer an option. In 1860 Abraham lincoln won president, and south saw him as an abolitionist who will free the slaves and be against them.

Stephen Douglas brought out popular sovereignty which meant the people would decide whether to keep slavery or abolish it, and that infuriated the slave owners. The confederates start to arms their people to protect their slaves from being free because if they were free they would go out of business. Slave owners saw him as a threat and they said if he try to free the slave they would succeed from the United States. On December 13, some of the southern state met and issue a proclamation. South Carolina succeed because of the proclamation with other Southern states.

At first all union want was not to break apart but after time Abraham Lincoln also care about freeing slaves. At the beginning of the war both of them fell over confidence, and the soldiers fought for the Confederates freedom and the same with the Union.
