In history there were many important people who contributed greatly to the women's rights movement. But before that their were women who had impacts like Eleanor Roosevelt the first lady who contributed a lot during the great depression.Before there was a women's movement E.R was an aggressive fighter for the rights of women and men alike . She took an active role in helping to get the country back on its feet after the Great Depression . She was a leader for women during WWII and was a huge contributor .

Eleanor Roosevelt was born October 11 , 1884 in New York City, NY and died November 7th , 1962. She was married to Franklin D. Roosevelt from 1905-1945 and had five kids Anna ,Elliott , Franklin, James, and John Roosevelt. Eleanor was a politician and an activist , she was also the longest serving first lady of the United States. She went to Allenwood Academy in London and that was where she introduced to feminism by headmaster.

Eleanor was one of the only people who spoke up for African Americans in the White House. A good example of her helping African Americans is when Marian Anderson wasn't allowed to play in Constitution Hall she arranged for her to perform at Lincoln Memorial instead. Roosevelt also had made programs to help women get better wages , the New Deal was also places which helped women get put in less factory work and into white collar work (cubicle , office , and administrative work).
