Elie Wiesel won a Nobel Peace Prize due to his large contributions to humanitarian causes, a result of the tragedy he faced during his childhood. Elie Wiesel quoted “No human race is superior; no religious faith is inferior. All collective judgments are wrong. Only racists make them”. He Lost his right at the age of 15 when was taken to the infamous Nazi extermination camp, Auschwitz, where he watched the vast crimes against humanity perpetrated by the Germans during World War 2. As a result he didn’t want anything to do with the Holocaust because he has been through the horror. Elie made it his life’s work to promote human rights mainly became at two reasons; his strong belief in God and experience as a first hand eye witness to the horrors at the holocaust. He watched his own father die of starvation while at a concentration camp, and watched fellow inmates get executed by his very own eyes. He witnessed women get raped and felt powerless in these circumstances. As a result, he spent his life fighting for human rights, not just for his fellow Jews, but also for other oppressed groups such as the Kurds, victims of famine in Africa. His overall goal is for nobody to have to witness acts such as the ones he witnessed, and for everyone to live at the same standard of living, something that was taken away from him and his family during the holocaust. He took action against the crimes he saw as a child, he may have been helpless then but has made a great impact
