Frederick Douglass impacted our society by helping African slaves to freedom and help President Abraham Lincoln free the slaves. Despite Douglass being born into slavery he learned how to read and write. Later in Douglass’ life he escaped slavery with his wife and changed his name to “Frederick Douglass”. Finally, Douglass released his first autobiography Life and Times of Frederick Douglass. In the book it states the horrible conditions he lived through. One of Frederick Douglass’ famous quote is “It's better to make stronger children, then fix broken men.”
Frederick Douglass was born on February 14, 1817 in Maryland near Easton. The birthplace of Douglass is described in Life and Times of Frederick Douglass on page 3, “...there is a small district of country thinly populated, and remarkable for nothing that I know of more than for worn-out, sandy, desert-like appearance…” Early in his Childhood Douglass lived with his Grandmother and Grandfather. What made Frederick Douglass a great leader was because of his respect towards the indomitable power of written and spoken words . Douglass wanted was America to be united, in a democracy were black and whites get along and be friends. His main impact on society was when he released his autobiography. In it was his life story and how badly treated he was treated during his times as a slave. Frederick Douglass was a great leader because he gave people hope with speeches and quotes.
