General Petraeus and the City Of Mosul
Going to war with Iraq in 2003 was no easy mission. Although General Petraeus had a difficult time, he was successful in describing the operation environment to his subordinate commanders by providing the commanders intent, planning guidance to include operational approach, but also the commander’s critical information requirements, and the element of friendly information.
Commander’s Intent
As General Petraeus took on the responsibility of leading his men of the 101st Airborne Division into Iraq one thing that he was not anticipating was moving even further North of Baghdad. That is what then turned into the new Commanders Intent for General Petraeus. He was now to enter the center of gravity, which was also known as Mosul. As General Petraeus made his way north thru Iraq upon arrival to Baghdad, he decided to stop and secure the area in order to decide what the plan was before continuing to move north.

It took a lot of trial and error but now because of it we changed our way forward as well. Since leaving Iraq General Petraeus was able to take back what he learned.
