The book Of Mice And Men written by John Steinbeck involves two main characters George and Lennie. George and Lennie live during the Great Depression. Since they live during the Great Depression it is hard for them to make a living. They have a dream of owning a farm, but throughout the book Lennie gets in the way. As Lennie gets into more trouble George starts to wonder if he’d be better off by himself. Towards the end of the book, George is forced to make an important decision that would change his life.
Some may claim that George did not make the right decision by killing Lennie.George made the right decision because just like what they did to Candy’s dog, George shot Lennie in the back of the head so that it would not be painful. On page 100, the author says, “He looked at the back of the head, at the place where the spine and skull were joined.” Slim did this same thing when he shot Candy’s dog. This shows that George was trying to make sure Lennie did not have to suffer.
First, I think that George did the right thing because he knew that neither him nor Lennie could achieve their dream. George thought that their dream of owning their own farm one day was simply false hope.

I think that Lennie didn’t know his own strength, and that without George, Lennie wouldn’t have been able to control it as much. Lennie would get into more trouble because George is the one who tells him what’s right from wrong. On page 20 it states, “George scowled at him, and Lennie dropped his head in shame at having forgotten.” This shows that George has to remind Lennie what to do so that he doesn’t get in trouble. Then, on page 87 Lennie says, “I done a real bad thing.” he said. “I shouldn’t have did that. George’ll be mad.” This shows that Lennie knows when he has done a bad thing. I think that George did the right thing because it kept Lennie from getting in more trouble with
