How Did George Washington Influence The French And Indian War

Everybody knows about george washington and how he led the continental army against the British in america's war for independence and how he was the first president of the United States. Yet very few people actually know about his role in the French and Indian War (Seven Years War). Born in Virginia in 1732, Washington was the son of a wealthy tobacco farming family who was not rich at the time but also not struggling by any means. Being as his family was still in the upper class, his family had some valuable ties to the powerful families and companies at the time. The ties that his family had would help Washington get appointed to the positions he did leading into the war.

At the age of 17, Washington was appointed as a surveyor for Culpeper County. His surveyor position helped him gain a vast knowledge of the land which would help him in the French and Indian War that started five years later in 1754. This is where the Ohio company comes into play. The Ohio Company was put together to push west from the other colonies to start paving the way for trade and other sources of income that the Ohio River Valley could offer and

One has to remember that during all of this he was still a young man as he got his first military type job at 22 years old when he was ordered by Governor Dinwiddie to give the French a letter telling them to leave the area. He also learned from mistakes he made during his service and he was made a better leader because of them. He transformed the militia of Virginia from just a regular militia to something that resembled a true army with discipline and regulations. During these years he not only built his core values, but he also made a name for himself which made him a great candidate to lead the Colonial Army in the American Revolutionary
