On April 18, 1775 was a historic day in the American Revolutionary War. On this day, British soldiers were marching toward the colonists who had weapons and ammunition that the British were trying to take. The British had gotten to Lexington in the morning but the colonists were already prepared because the night before Paul Revere had warned the militia of the British coming to attack the town. Since the colonists had already known that the British were coming, the colonists were already in battle position. The colonists had been in the center of the town waiting. While the British had swarmed into Lexington, there was a shot. This shot is now known as a mystery called who fired the first shot. There are four witnesses that say the British had fired the shots first at the colonists in Lexington. The first witness was a first hand eyewitness from Thomas Fessenden. Thomas is a colonial outlooker. He had testified that he had seen three british commanders coming in on horses and he said that his men yelled at the British “disperse you Rebels”.
