The composer I chose was Antonín Dvořák. Dvořák was one of the several composers during the Romantic period from 1850-1910. He was a Czech composer who was born in a small Bohemian village of Nelahozeves (which is now part of the Czech Republic) on September 8, 1841, and died in Prague, Czech Republic on May 1, 1904. He died at 62 from an unknown illness (possibly a stroke), leaving many unfinished works. Dvořák was a country boy (the oldest of eight children who survived) of a butcher and innkeeper in a small village in Bohemia. Bohemia was full of musicians and young Antonín Dvořák took violin lessons. His father was a butcher, and he wanted Antonin to become a butcher, too. He entered his compositions in a contest and won! The prize money allowed Dvorak to quit his job, and made him well-known as a composer. He played violin and viola in Prague's National Opera Orchestra until, at thirty-one, he won a prize for a composition he did. He soon became famous as a composer, and was able to make a living composing compositions at the Prague Conservatory. He composed about everything - from symphonies and operas, songs and various chamber compositions to spiritual music such as oratorios and cantatas.
