Lindy Hop developed in Harlem, New York City in the 1920s and 1930s, during the Jazz Age. It later got very popular in the Swing Era, late 1930s and 1940s. Lindy Hop was a combination of multiple dances, mainly based on tap, jazz, Charleston, and breakaway. The evolution of Lindy combined both solo and partner dancing by including moves from Black dances and the European partner dances. Lindy Hop originated in African-American neighborhoods in Harlem, New York during the Swing/Jazz Era.
