Women’s Rights Movement

The Women’s Rights Movement was a movement that helped women in the 19th century gain rights. Men and women gathered for the first meeting dedicated to the Women’s Rights Movement in the United States was held in 1848. Seneca Falls was the first move for the Women’s Rights Movement. There were one hundred people who signed and stood up for this movement. The Women’s Rights Movement granted women more political rights like property. Women who affected the result of the Women’s Rights Movement during the 19th century were Lucy Stone, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Susan B. Anthony. The Women’s Rights Movement is important in the 19th century American history because it gave women rights and set up 20th century women in gaining equal rights.

Stone was born on August 13th, 1818. After she got married she decided to keep her own name which was not common in the 19th century, the ones who “copied” Stone were addressed as “lucy Stoners”. Stone was a leader, protester, and a pioneer. She didn’t join the Women’s Rights Movement in Seneca Falls but Stone definitely did impact the Movement. Stone was the president and established the State Woman's Suffrage Association of New Jersey. Stone as well became president of the National Women’s Rights Movement. Stone was apart of many more Women’s Rights movements. She ended up being the first woman in Massachusetts to graduate with a bachelor's degree. Stone continued to fight for women's rights even after the Civil War but sadly died on October 18th, 1893 a year after doing her final speech at The World’s Columbian Exposition. age
