Lyndon Johnson was a very intelligent man, there were many rough factors that were happening around this time. A couple years later, kennedy died and Johnson became president of the united states after he died. The bill was not a sure thing until Johnson stood behind it, despite the other fellow Southerners. Johnson liked most southerners, but he did not support the federal civil rights. When president Harry Truman proposed laws against lynching and poll taxes, Johnson opposed them. For someone who is so against the civil rights law, and had his change of mind surprised many people. Many people were upset at his sudden change in mind because he was so against it in the beginning and then started going for it. …show more content…
In the middle of the two polls JFK was assassinated and many people were sad there was a lot of sympathy.The results of the polls helped Johnson a lot 57% of the people approved of the way he was handling the issue. Only Johnson knows if he signed the Civil Rights Act for a principle or political reason. Nobody else is in his head so nobody knows why he changed his mind so quickly.
