September 25, 1926 was the day Mackenzie King was elected Prime Minister of Canada. Mackenzie King, who is the leader of the Liberals, was one of the many people who desperately hoped for the war to be avoided. Mr. King did not realize Canada's huge economic crisis. He assumed that the Great Depression would not harshly affect Canada, so he refused to provide funds from the federal government for those who were struggling with unemployment. Approximately 27% of Canadians were unemployed at this time, and King did nothing to help his citizens. Canada suffered for many years due to Mackenzie King. His Five Cent Piece speech stated that he will not be providing unemployment relief to the provinces from the Canadian federal government. Following
