Marie Curie made a positive impact on society because her scientific discoveries led to ground breaking growth in the field of chemistry and physics. Maria Curie, born in November 7, 1867 in Warsaw, Poland. Her parents were Bronislawa and Wladyslaw Skodowska and they raised her in a home focused on education. She was the youngest of five, three sisters and one brother. Since both parents were teachers it was insisted that all of the children were to be well educated. She was later referred to as Marie Curie when she became married. All of her siblings, including Marie, were taught about math and science by their mother and father as they were both teachers. When she was ten years old her mother died and she start-ed going to a boarding school. At the age of fifteen she graduated high school with a gold medal for top student with her interest being greatly focused on science. Between the age of sixteen and seventeen she went to a floating university, these classes were held in secret, as she could not attend the men-only University in Warsaw. After she was able to work for several years and save enough money at the age of 24 she and her sister attended school in Paris at the Sorbonne to study chemistry, math and physics. She continued to want to learn and proceed with her education so she completed a masters de-gree in chemistry in 1894 at age 27. She tried to return home to Poland to look for work but found there were no jobs at the university because she was a woman. She then returned to Paris to further her schooling and work on her Ph.D. degree in physics. This is where she met Pierre Curie. They got married in 1895 as he had purposed to her before she made her trip back to Po-land. They also came to have two daughters together, the first was Irene and then Eve came
