Martin Luther King, Jr. Many people have contributed to the Civil Rights Movement throughout history. Some of the greatest contributions came from people who have been affected by racism. Martin Luther King, Jr. who had experienced racism, was very involved in the Civil Rights movement. From very early in his life, King grew up reaching out to others during the time of segregation, and did so while leaving a lasting impact on the United States and the World. Much of why Martin Luther King, Jr grew to be a great leader was because of where and how he grew up. In January of 1929, King was born. He was born into a Christian household where many generations of the King’s family had been involved in the Church as preachers and took part in the Civil rights movement in Atlanta (Spartacus). He made countless efforts to change laws, and in 1964, Congress outlawed segregation in public facilities by passing the Civil Rights Act (Martin). In the same year Martin Luther King, Jr. was acknowledged as someone who deserved the Nobel Peace Prize, and was awarded it in Norway (Martin). Yet four years later, after being assassinated, riots broke out in 125 cities (Spartacus). Still to this day, every year Americans come together and realize their mistakes they have made in the past and recognize the man who looked to fix and never give up on those mistakes. (Celebrating) Martin Luther King, Jr.’s achievements continued to have effects on the Civil Rights movement even when he had died, as his legacy that started when he was young kept living and added to the lasting impact on the United states and the African American population.
