How Did Martin Luther King Support The Civil Rights Movement

It is fair to say that that peaceful protests and martin Luther king did make huge improvements to the positions of black Americans however they did contain flaws. Other factors must also be considered such as; presidents, congress as well as the role of the media.
Peaceful protests certainly helped gain support for the civil rights movements not only by black Americans but by white Americans too. Martin Luther king was a main driving factor towards the civil rights movement as he initiated the Montgomery bus boycott. This illustrated that the black community were economically powerful as 85% boycotted buses in 1955 and this led to a slump in bus fare outcomes. As a result of this, segregation on public transport was ruled illegal by the Supreme Court. In 1960, the Greensboro sit INS were inspired by kings success through the Montgomery boycott. This proved how successful the peaceful protests were and how successfully they are implemented.
Perhaps the most successful was the march on Washington where 250,000 Americans marched to Washington to demand a bill be passed on civil rights. 50,000 of them being white Americans. This showed the extent to

It emphasised black Americans helping themselves and working within the black community to implement change. However, one of the main components black power was missing was the support from presidency. This was another reason for the improvement of civil rights as civil right campaigners could’ve protested all they wanted but if it wasn’t for Eisenhower passing the civil rights act 1957 and Johnson passing the civil rights act 1964 and voting /act then there would not have been any change.
